This week, our lectionary readings focus on both sin and forgiveness. We see in Genesis the first moment of human rebellion against the good plan of God. Yet we read in our Psalm that "with him there is plenteous redemption, and he shall redeem Israel from all their sins." In 2 Corinthians, Paul speaks of grace extending to more and more people, for God's glory. And Jesus says in our Gospel: "Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins..." The truth of the Gospel is that sin is a real, terrible thing that thwarts the purposes of God for our flourishing. But God's grace and mercy, crystallized for us in the cross of Christ, overcomes the ability of sin to derail God's kingdom purposes. Thanks be to the One who forgives our sins, making us able to be children of the King!
