Songs We're Singing - July 6

 
 

This Sunday's readings focus on themes of rest and freedom. The reading from Romans declares:  "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death." And our Gospel reading brings us these comforting words of Jesus: "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." When we turn to Jesus, leaving our darkness and entering his marvelous light, the Spirit brings us into true freedom and rest - from all of our vain striving for God's approval, from our empty grasping for worldly fulfillment, and from bondage to our old way of thinking. Let us rejoice this week in the freedom of Christ and the rest in his strong and saving arms!
